COVE Rangers can confirm the appointment of Ryan Docherty as our new Performance Analyst ahead of the new League One season.
Ryan replaces Chris Napier, who was an important member of the manager’s backroom staff last term and was recently appointed as Academy Performance Analyst at English Premier League side Crystal Palace.
A graduate of Aberdeen University, 23-year-old Ryan holds a degree in Health and Fitness Science and an HND in Coaching and Development in Sport. He and Chris, who was also a scouting analyst intern with Aberdeen FC before moving to London, were classmates at Aberdeen University.
As Chris did, Ryan will play a crucial role behind the scenes at Balmoral Stadium. Ryan’s role includes preparing analysis of every game and training session that can be studied by the coaching staff and players as they work on making improvements.
Ryan’s varied duties will also include gathering footage and information on our opponents to ensure the players have all they need to prepare for every game over the course of the season.
Cove Rangers manager Paul Hartley said: “I’m delighted we have been able to replace Chris with someone as talented and capable as Ryan. Having now stepped up a level, the role of our performance analyst will become even more important, so it’s great we have managed to secure Ryan as a member of our coaching team.”
“I place a high value in the input from our performance analyst. It’s important to feed the players as much information as possible to give them more opportunity of winning games. Chris did a fantastic job last season, which was highlighted by the fact we were able to win the League Two title.”
“Everyone at the club is delighted Chris has since secured an important role with Crystal Palace and we wish him well for the future.”
“We are also looking forward to working with Ryan.”
Ryan, who is a nephew of Aberdeen FC assistant manager Tony Docherty, said: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to work for Cove Rangers. I know how well Chris did and he is going to be a hard act to follow.”
“I obviously spoke to him when the opportunity to join Cove was mentioned and he couldn’t speak highly enough about the club and the people who work there. I’m excited by the prospect of working alongside the rest of the coaching staff and for a club that clearly has very high ambitions.”
Everyone at Cove Rangers would like to welcome Ryan to the club and wish him well during his time at Balmoral Stadium.
