PETERHEAD PREVIEW | JAMIE MASSON

Back to news

MIDFIELDER Jamie Masson says he’s ready for one of the toughest tests of the season when we face Peterhead in League One at Balmoor Stadium tomorrow.

The Blue Toon have already underlined their quality by beating Dundee United at Tannadice in the Betfred League Cup.

“We have enough lads in our camp who also played for Peterhead to ensure we take nothing for granted,” said Jamie.

“They have already spoken about the need for us to be at our very best if we are to take anything from the game. Peterhead will be there or thereabouts in the battle for the top positions in this division.”

“They will also be determined to win their first league match at home, so we know we are going to get one of our most testing 90 minutes of the season. We are looking forward to it though because we want to show we are capable of holding our own in this division.”

Jamie says the team are going into the match in a positive frame of mind after opening our League One campaign with a 3-1 victory East Fife at Balmoral Stadium.

“It was the perfect start for us,” said Jamie.

“We got the three points and maintained our perfect record at home in the SPFL, which is all we could really have hoped for. The manager spoke to us before the game about the importance of maintaining our good form at Balmoral Stadium.”

“If we are solid at home it will give us something to build on as we progress through the campaign. The way East Fife played in the first part of the game was also a reminder of the step up we have made.”

“They have always been among the leading part-time sides in the country and made it very tough for us until they had a player sent-off. It was good to get such a hard test in the first game of the season because it gave us an idea of what is to come in the majority of our games this term.”

Skipper Mitch Megginson scored twice, with Leighton McIntosh completing our tally with his first league goal for the club.

Mitch had earlier missed a penalty but Jamie has no doubts the club captain will be happy to take on the responsibility again if we were to be awarded any spot-kicks at Balmoor on Saturday.

Jamie said: “Missing the penalty was probably what spurred Mitch on to get those other two goals.

“You could see how frustrated and annoyed he was to miss. I had a little word with him to keep his head up but there was no real need.”

“Mitch lives off chances to score so there is no way he will turn down the next penalty – and he will be even more determined to put that one away.”
