WE are delighted to announce the appointment of Adrian Thomson as our new kit manager.
Adrian – who is best known by his nickname ‘Edser’ – succeeds Mike Pirie, who was forced to step down due to work commitments.
The 66-year-old confessed he is looking forward to what he described as “an exciting new adventure.”
Adrian added: “I’ve been involved with the club, in one form or another, for more than 17 years. I was keen to do more and was on the brink of offering to do more, work on the gate, sell pies, almost anything, when Cove advertised they were looking for a new kit manager.”
“I think I was the first to apply because I knew it would be the ideal job for me. It’s hard to describe how excited I am to actually end up in a post that has the added bonus of letting me be in the dressing room, before and after games.”
“I’m retired from my full-time job and delighted to have this exciting new adventure to fill the gap. I accept it comes with a lot of pressures because the kit manager has an important role to play.”
“It’s up to me to make sure the players have everything they need to help them win games. I’m also going to have to meet the high standards set by the manager and his coaching team.”
“I’ve only just started, so have a lot to learn, but I’m determined to show everyone they have made the right choice.”
Adrian arrived at Cove in 2007 from Aberdeen Junior side Sunnybank, when Kevin Walker was team manager, to help set up our youth development programme.
He has remained involved behind the scenes in some form or other since then, mainly in the administration of our youth sides.
An avid Scotland fan, Adrian is also well known in amateur football circles because of his involvement with MS United – social media users will have been well briefed about his “famous and brilliant” goal in a match against Theologians.
‘Edser’ is confident his years of working as a committee member with MS will assist him in his new role at Balmoral Stadium.
“That includes knowing how to handle the sort of stick that normally flies about in dressing rooms full of footballers and coaches,” said Adrian.
“Gordon Young (our assistant manager) has already kicked things off by giving me the new nickname of ‘George Ezra.’
“I was a bit baffled when he said ‘Thanks George’ after I helped him with a couple of things in my first few days.
“I’m told it’s because he thought people who already knew me were calling me Ezra and not Edser, the nickname I have always been known by.
“I’m not complaining though, I know it could have been much worse.
“I’ve also had some gentle stick from Connor Scully and Blair Yule, who were among the youth players I helped to bring to the club many years ago.”
Adrian also hopes to eventually have a say in the choice of music played in the Cove dressing room before games.
“I believe Daniel Higgins is the one who organises that,” said Adrian.
“I’ve told him it would be nice to mix things up a bit and maybe get a few Bee Gees tracks in there too, anything would be better than the racket you can hear come out of the place now!”
