WE are delighted to confirm manager Paul Hartley and goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie have been named as the SPFL League One Manager and Player of the month for October.
Paul and Stuart were rewarded for their contributions to what was a perfect league record for us during the course of last month.
We kicked off our first League One campaign with a 3-1 home victory over East Fife, beating Peterhead 2-0 at Balmoor Stadium and completing the run with a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle at Balmoral Stadium.
Manager Paul said: “The award is recognition of the hard work everyone has put in so far, I’m delighted for them as much as for myself. You don’t win these sort of awards on your own, we really do work as a team.”
“I really appreciate being able to work with so many good people and with such a talented group of players.”
Stuart made a key contribution to all three league victories.
He made crucial early saves in the victories over East Fife and Peterhead. The former Montrose keeper was also praised for the outstanding stop he made, from a free-kick, during the narrow triumph over Partick Thistle.
Stuart’s month also including an astonishing performance in our Betred League Cup clash away to Brora Rangers. He saved two penalties and then scored the winner as we won a dramatic shoot-out 6-5 to claim an extra point after the tie had ended 2-2.
Manager Paul said: “We are all delighted to see Stuart being recognised in this manner. His contribution often goes unheralded but we all appreciate having a goalkeeper of his quality in our squad.”
“The award has been well earned because Stuart, like the team, has made a very strong start to the season.”
Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul and Stuart for picking up the awards, which are chosen by an independent panel of journalists selected by the SPFL.
