FORFAR REACTION | MITCH & THE MANAGER

Back to news

TWO goal hero Mitch Megginson is delighted with the standard of the team display delivered in our 3-0 League One victory over Forfar Athletic at Balmoral Stadium.

Team captain Mitch’s double brought his tally for the campaign to five, after Rory McAllister had given us an early lead against the Loons.

Mitch said: “We played some of our best football of the season so far, so we are all very pleased with how things went. From start to finish we were extremely professional in our approach.”

“It helped that the conditions, probably for the first time this season, were more suited to how we like to play. Some of our passing moves were top class, it was a really strong team display.”

Mitch was pleased with how he and Rory linked up in what was their frst start up front together this term.

“We did well together last season and it was good to see that continue,” he said. Rory and I are different types of players but we seem to work well off each other.”

“You could see that from the important part he played in both of my goals. The penalty came after I had been fouled getting on to a great back-heeled lay-off from Rory.”

“He did the same for our third goal, Rory placed the ball perfectly into my path and I really couldn’t miss. Rory also gave us the perfect start by taking his early goal very well.”

“It meant we always looked likely to go on and win the game. It’s great we have now managed to make it four wins out of four, but we will be taking nothing for granted.”

“We have two tough League Cup games coming up and we will do all we can to get the best possible results in those before even thinking about what lies ahead in our next league game.”

Manager Paul Hartley said: “I thought we were excellent, especially in the second half, when we totally controlled the game. Some of our play during that period was outstanding.”

“We also managed another clean sheet, which is always great, so it was a good afternoon for us. It was an excellent overall team performance.”

Manager Paul and keeper Stuart McKenzie were named as the SPFL League One manager and player of the month for October ahead of the game.

Mitch said: “Everyone in the dressing room is particularly pleased to see Stuart get some long overdue recognition.

“Keepers quite often get ignored while strikers are being praised for scoring goals and midfielders are applauded for assists. But we know how lucky we are to have Stuart behind us.”

“He has played for Cove for numerous years now and pulls off outstanding saves time and time again.”

“It’s great Stuart has been rewarded for his contribution.”
