LEIGHTON McIntosh is looking forward to taking on his former club Airdrieonians in tomorrow’s League One clash at the Penny Cars Stadium.
Striker Leighton spent the 2018-19 season with the Diamonds, scoring 17 goals in 26 starts to finish that campaign as their top scorer.
“It’s always nice to be going back to your former clubs and I certainly enjoyed my time at Airdrie,” said Leighton, who then spent a season with Welsh club Wrexham before joining us in August.
“Their team has changed quite a bit since I was there, but there will still be a few familiar faces about.
“I’ve also played down there against them – for Peterhead – so obviously know what to expect.
“As was the case in those other visits, I’m anticipating a really tough game against a team who have a lot of experience of playing at this level.
“This league is very tight and you are going to have to be right on it every week, even more so away from home, if you want to remain at the top end.”
We head to Lanarkshire on the back of our first league defeat of the campaign, 1-0 away to Falkirk last weekend, but Leighton confirmed spirits are still high in our camp.
He said: “The Falkirk game could have gone either way, so we have nothing to be too despondent about.
“We played really well and I was very close to getting the equaliser late on, it was a good performance from us.
“Falkirk are full-time but we matched them for fitness and certainly played more football than them, they were pretty direct.
“If anything, losing our first game will motivate us even more bounce back.
“We won’t change our style or anything drastic like that.
“We just need to keep doing as we have done in the first five games and we won’t be far off getting the results we all want.”
We have no fresh injury problems and have Jamie Masson available again after completing a two game suspension.
