DUMBARTON PREVIEW | DANIEL HIGGINS

Back to news

CENTRAL defender Daniel Higgins accepts it’s going to take a massive effort if we are to get back to winning ways away to Dumbarton tomorrow.

We make the long trek to the C&G Systems Stadium – which sits in the shadow of the famous Dumbarton Rock – to face the Sons in League One.

We go there on the back of having picked up just one point from our last three league games, away to Falkirk and Airdrie and at home to Montrose.

“Not having won for three games in a row is a totally knew experience for most of us at Cove,” said Daniel, who has played at Dumbarton before, he helped Stranraer win 1-0 there in a League One clash in December 2018, during his time on loan to them from Kilmarnock.

“It’s not getting us down or anything because we still feel we were unfortunate not to take more points, we enjoyed spells of dominance in all three games.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t take advantage of those spells when we were on top and gave our opponents encouragement to come back out in the second half believing they could still get the better of us.

“It’s not something we have enjoyed though, so we are obviously eager to do better and see our results improve quickly.

“But that certainly won’t be easy to do at Dumbarton.

“I expect tomorrow’s game to be pretty similar to the one I played in there for Stranraer.

“We really had to scrap for the points on what can at times be a heavy pitch, especially if there has been a bit of rain in the lead up to games.

“It’s going to be case of rolling up our sleeves and making sure we come off the pitch knowing we could have given no more as far as effort goes.

“If we do that then we know we have special players in our squad who can help give us that winning edge.

“We showed it’s something we are capable of doing when we won up at Peterhead earlier in the campaign.

“We played some great football that afternoon but that was only because we put the effort in too.

“If we can reach the standards we did that day again then we will make it very difficult for Dumbarton.

“If not, then things could become tough for us because – as we have discovered already – this is an unforgiving league that punishes you if you aren’t on the top of your game from start to finish.”
