PAUL Hartley and Fraser Fyvie spoke to the media after our 3-2 League One defeat to Clyde at Balmoral Stadium.
Manager Paul said: “It was another disappointing result, we shot ourselves in the foot.
“We are giving away too many penalties, that’s three in the last three games, we just aren’t defending well enough.
“The latest ones were very soft.
“We dived in and went to ground, you can’t do that against a striker as experienced as David Goodwillie is, he is one of the best in our league.
“As soon as you go to ground you give yourself a problem.
“At the third goal we didn’t show enough to desire to block the shot.
“We made it too easy for them, we aren’t doing the basics well enough.
“It’s something we need to sort because this league is a totally different ball game.
“We have to be better than we were last year, you need to be on your mettle in every game.
“We have played some good football but we’ve got to do the other side of the game too.
“It’s time for us to regroup and we need a bit of honesty from the players.
“They need to ask if they can do better – and, of course, they can.
“They showed that by making a strong start in the league.
“The players need to be saying ‘what do I need to do to improve?’
“They need to stand up and be counted.
“We are going through a tough period, which hasn’t happened at this club over the last few years.
“But, like I said, it’s a different ball game now.
“We don’t want to find ourselves in a battle at the bottom end of the table, we have got to raise our standards again.”
Midfielder Fraser said: “It simply wasn’t good enough from us.
“We started well but then gave away a sloppy goal.
“That was my fault, I gave the ball away.
“We then took back control thanks to Mitch (Megginson) scoring two great goals.
“But they have a top class striker in David Goodwillie, who should never be playing where he is.
“He is capable of hurting anyone, anywhere in Scotland.
“He scored the two penalties but also played in areas that hurt us throughout the game.
“But we are making mistakes that should never happen.
“The coaching staff do everything for us to help us go and do well on the pitch.
“We need to give them something back.
“It’s not a disaster, it’s only five games without a win.
“There are teams who have been on a lot worse runs than us, so there is nothing to panic about.
“But we are the ones who need to start cutting out those little errors and doing a lot better.”
