Forfar Preview | Connor Scully

Back to news

CONNOR Scully would like to wish Cove Rangers supporters everywhere a very Merry Christmas.

Midfielder Connor took time out from his preparations for our League One clash with Forfar Athletic at Station Park to extend greetings for the festive season to our fans and thank them for the backing they have given us throughout what has been a difficult 2020.

“I speak for everyone at the club when I say we have really appreciated the backing we have received from every single Cove Rangers fan,” said Connor.

“You played a huge part in us being able to celebrate our first season playing in the SPFL by being crowned champions of League Two.

“Unfortunately, the pandemic has prevented you from attending matches this season.

“If I could have had one Christmas wish granted this year it would be to see our fans back inside Balmoral Stadium again at some stage in the New Year, doing what they always do to push us on in games.

“Despite the necessary restrictions, we we know you have all still been there for us this season too.

“When I meet fans they are always wishing us well and many of you have also been helping  the club by paying to watch games live on Cove Rangers TV.

“That’s despite the financial difficulties a lot of people are having to deal with because of the current situation.

“Hopefully, you have all been able to have as best a Christmas as possible with your families and I really mean it when I say I can’t wait for the day when we are actually playing in front of you again.”

Connor would also love to deliver a late Christmas present to our fans – in the form of a victory at Station Park this afternoon.

We go into the clash with The Loons having picked up just one point from our last five League One games.

Connor accepts we will have to be at our very best if we are to improve on that at Forfar.

Connor said: “As we have quickly found out, every game in this league is a tough one.

“None of us have enjoyed our recent run of results, I can’t recall ever going five games without a win since joining Cove more than eight years ago.

“But we accept we are now up at a level where everyone is capable of beating everyone else on their day.

“You have to be at the very top of your game every week or you will drop points.

“You can be sure Forfar will have looked at our results and be thinking they can also take something off us, we have to be ready for another highly competitive 90 minutes.

“The big positive for us is that, even though we didn’t collect as many points as we wanted in those last five games, we aren’t being beaten heavily by anyone either.

“We have lost games by the odd goal and only because we made mistakes – at both ends of the pitch.

“That’s something we believe we are capable of fixing.

“It’s a case of us sticking together and making sure those sort of errors don’t keep occurring.

“If we do that I’m confident we will be able to go on another run of more positive results.”
