Festive Friends At Home

Back to news

PRIOR to the Christmas & New Year period Manager Paul Hartley and Club Secretary Duncan Little were out in the local community doing their bit to deliver some festive cheer to the isolated and elderly in the Cove area.

Paul and Duncan, assisted by members of the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, were out and about dropping off Christmas hampers to some of those in most need of them.

The special gift boxes were supplied as part of the SPFL Charitable Trust’s Festive Friends at Home Scheme, which was set up to offer assistance to thousands of supporters throughout the country to help make Christmas a little bit more special for them this year.

It replaced the Festive Friends Scheme, which over the last four years had ensured more than 4,000 elderly and isolated fans enjoyed the opportunity to socialise and enjoy a festive lunch at the homes of their local clubs, including at Balmoral Stadium.

Duncan said: “We were obviously unable to host the lunch this year because of the pandemic so were only too happy to deliver the special festive gifts to the fans instead.

“They were well received, as was the opportunity for some of those we visited to enjoy a chat after having been isolated for some time.

“One of the fans I spoke to said it was the first time since March that he had anyone visiting his house.

“It was great getting the chance to meet the fans, some of whom were regulars at Balmoral Stadium before the current restrictions were put in place.

“We would like thank those from the Fir & Rescue Service who assisted us in helping to give the supporters a boost in the lead up to Christmas.”
