Partick Thistle Preview | Rory McAllister

Back to news

STRIKER Rory McAllister is relishing returning to Firhill Stadium when we resume our League One campaign away to Partick Thistle.

Tomorrow’s game, our first of any sort since the beginning of January, will be the second Rory has featured in at Partick’s famous old ground.

The first was back in May 2007 –  when Rory was still playing his club football for Inverness Caledonian Thistle – and he scored at Firhill for the Scotland Under-20 side in a 4-0 friendly victory over  Northern Ireland’s Under-21.

“It proved to be a very good day for me, let’s hope there is another one to come,” said Rory.

“I’m going back there in totally different circumstances though. We are returning after the longest lay-off I’ve ever experienced as a player.

“I’m fortunate to have never suffered a serious injury, so it’s been hard coping with not playing for weeks on end. I accept everyone has been in the same boat. Nobody really knows how the lay-off will influence performances or results in the remainder of the season.

“I’m hoping we will be able to pick up where we left off in January. I was certainly happy with the way things were going for me at that point.

“I was back in the team, we had enjoyed good wins over Peterhead in the league and Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup – and I had also scored in both games.

“It’s all been a but strange since then, although we accept it was for the right reasons.

“It’s almost like starting the season again – with the added challenge of playing our first match of any sort in a while away to one of the sides who are being tipped to gain promotion from our division.

“Having worked so hard to get ourselves into the position where we were when the league shut down it would be disappointing if we didn’t finish in the top half so that we still have the chance to gain promotion after the division splits.

“It’s going to take a lot of hard work to do achieve that but that’s something we have never been afraid of.”
