THE legend is coming back to Balmoral Stadium!

We are delighted to announce Eric Watson, the most decorated player in our history, will be the co-commentator for tomorrow night’s League One clash with Airdrie.

Former defender Eric, whose roll of honour in his 12 years at the club included an astonishing six Highland League titles, will be alongside regular commentator Scott Davie for what will be our first home match in almost three months.

Eric, who brought his time as Cove captain to a close in style by leading us to our historic SPFL promotion play-off victory over Berwick Rangers in 2019, said: “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to return to Balmoral and get my first look at the team in action in the flesh for a while.

“Cove Rangers will always be close to my heart and I’m delighted to see they are doing so well since making the step up into the SPFL.

“I came back to a few games with my son after we were promoted but this will be my first chance to actually see them in League One.

“It pleases me to see so many of the guys I played alongside are still involved.

“That’s a testament to how good they are and how hard they have worked to improve so that they are able to compete at a higher level.”

The Airdrie game will be the first at which Eric has worked as a co-commentator.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

“I know there will be a lot of Cove Rangers fans tuning in and I will do my best to give them added value – and try not to be too biased!

“I will probably have a few words to say to the Cove fans too because I have never really thanked them properly for the backing they gave me over the years.

“It meant a lot to me and is why I will always look back on my time with the club with fondness as well as pride.”

Eric, 39, joined Inverurie Locos after leaving Cove but announced in December that he had decided to retire from playing in the Highland League – but hasn’t yet hung up his boots completely and has had offers from Junior clubs.

“I just love playing and feel I have at least one more season left in me yet,” said Eric.

“Hopefully I will get that opportunity once the Junior Leagues get the all-clear to resume.”
