MANAGER Paul Hartley spoke to the media after our 1-0 defeat by Montrose at Links Park, our first defeat in the league since the end of December.
Paul said: “I’m not going to be critical of the players after all that they have given us this season.
“They had been on a great run.
“We actually didn’t play badly, I felt we controlled the game for long spells, especially in the second half.
“You only need to look at the amount of attempts at goal that we had.
“We had three good ones in the first 10 minutes, then got done by a set play, which was disappointing.
“Finishing third means we don’t have an easy run-in now, it will be Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and then Saturday again,
“It’s a tough schedule and we also have some walking wounded and a suspension with Ryan Strachan being sent off.
“It’s not ideal, we are just going to have to patch people up and go again on Saturday.
“It will be a case of asking them to put their bodies on the line.
“I can only praise the players for what they have already done.
“If someone had said at the start of the season that we would be two points off the top with four games to go we would have been delighted.
“They have done a great job so far but know they have to keep it going and see how many points we can get from the remaining games.”
The manager confirmed he is still waiting to hear if the injuries sustained by strikers Mitch Megginson and Rory McAllister and defender Scott Ross against Montrose will keep them out of Saturday’s visit to Falkirk.
