Montrose Preview: Ryan Strachan

Back to news

DEFENDER Ryan Strachan spoke to the media ahead of this evening’s League One clash with Montrose at Links Park.

Ryan said: “Montrose are the ones who have given us our toughest games of all this season.

“They are sitting fifth in the league now, but they are more than capable of changing that, with three games to play.

“I’ve been really impressed with them and we know getting any points from them is going to be a huge challenge.

“But we know we have to if we are to have a good end to our season.

“We are in a bit of a nothing position right now.

“We don’t think we can get first spot now because Partick Thistle are four points ahead of us and on a bit of a roll.

“We don’t think we will end up fifth either, although we know that could still happen.

“It means we can’t afford to take anything for granted if we want to at least make the promotion play-offs.”

Ryan goes into the game boosted by scoring an astonishing goal in our 2-2 draw with Partick at Balmoral Stadium on Tuesday night.

The defender netted with a long range shot that would have been a worthy winner, but Partick replied just two minutes later to maintain their four point lead over us at the top of the table.

Ryan said: “The goal certainly deserved to win a game.

“It was straight out of the top drawer, one of my best strikes of a ball.

“Unfortunately, we then switched off and let them reply right away.

“A runner came from the back and we didn’t communicate as we should have to cut that out.

“I tried to cover the run and didn’t get there in time, his shot also took a wee deflection off me to help it go in.

“It was a shame because I felt we deserved to win what was a great game of football.

“It was end-to-end, between two very good, fit, teams.

“We can take a lot of encouragement from being able to do that against full-time opponents.

“Our fitness coach Tam Ritchie deserves a lot of the credit.

“He has made sure we have done the right things to help us recover, since pre-season right through until now.

“Tam really looks after our fitness and we have all appreciated his efforts.

“We are at really fit bunch and it means, even though we know every game is tough, we are always ready to go again.”
