Back to news

WE are delighted to confirm former Motherwell, Burnley and Falkirk winger Robbie Leitch has agreed a two year deal with the club.

The 23-year-old was a free agent after leaving the Bairns at the end of last season.

Manager Paul Hartley said: “Robbie is a great addition to the squad, he gives us good options in attacking areas.

“He can play wide or through the middle, possesses great speed and is very creative. I’m really looking forward to working with him.

“Robbie also made it clear he was delighted to join us. Coming to Cove offers him a platform to push his career on and I’m certain he will prove to be a real asset to us.”

Robbie said: “I’m delighted to sign for Cove.

“When I played against them last season I was really impressed by their style of football, which is always attacking, with the emphasis of keeping the ball on the deck.

“You can see that has been drilled into the squad in training and I know it will suit me and help to get the best out of me.

“What I love most is getting the ball to my feet and driving at players and I’m really excited to have the opportunity to do that with Cove.

“The opportunity to play for the manager was also a major attraction. He’s one of the most respected coaches in the game and impressed me when he outlined the ambitions for the club.”

Robbie came through the youth system at Motherwell and helped the Steelmen win the Scottish Youth Cup, for the only time in the club’s history, in 2016.

That same year, Robbie accepted the opportunity to sign for English Premier League side Burnley and spent a year at Turf Moor before enjoying spells at St Mirren, Queen’s Park and Croatia’s NK Novigrad.

He was a first team regular for the Bairns in League One last term, which included facing us three times during the course of the campaign.

Football certainly runs in the Leitch family. Robbie’s father, Scott, played for Motherwell and also enjoyed a spell as assistant manager at Aberdeen. His older brother, Jack, spent three years at Peterhead before signing for Stirling Albion at the start of last season.

Everyone at Cove Rangers would like to welcome Robbie to the club and wish him well during his time at Balmoral Stadium.
