Kyle Gourlay spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League One clash with Queen’s Park at Partick Thistle’s Firhill Stadium.
He said: “It’s a game we are all really looking forward to.
“Queen’s Park have strengthened their squad considerably over the last few months but then so have we, so it should be a pretty competitive 90 minutes.
“We are determined to do all that we can to get a win after only drawing with Falkirk last weekend.
“It’s a measure of the standards we set for ourselves that we were disappointed to only take a point, even though we know we were never at our best.
“Not having a proper pre-season played a part in that, it could be another couple of weeks before we are fully up to speed.
“But we also need to keep picking up points. This league is extremely competitive so the campaign is going to be a marathon, not a sprint.
“We can expect things to be pretty tight between all of the clubs going into the final few games.
“It’s up to us to keep working and improving to make sure we are where we want to be when things are at that stage.
“It was a real boost when the manager told me I was starting the Falkirk game. When I signed for the club I made it clear I had come here determined to earn the right to play, every player wants to feature every week.
“It’s now up to me to maintain high standards if that is to happen. I’m really enjoying myself at the club.
“Having worked with the gaffer before at Dundee was a big draw, but so was the ambition everyone at the club has shown. It’s a club that is eager to progress and I want to play my part.
“The arrival of Derek Soutar (our goalkeeping coach) will help. I never worked with Derek at Dundee, but certainly knew of him.
“He has played at the highest levels and is also an excellent coach and I’m already feeling benefits from working with Derek.
“Things have certainly gone well for me so far, but I know I can’t afford to take anything for granted.”
