Striker Rory McAllister spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League One clash with Dumbarton at the C&G Systems Stadium.
Rory said: “We know we are in for a very challenging match.
“This division was very competitive last season, but if anything, it’s shaping up to be even tougher this time around.
“That’s reflected by the fact nobody has won all of their games so far and the majority of them have been very close.
“It’s likely to be the same right through the campaign, so if any side did manage to string a few results together they could end up in a strong position.
“It would be great if that could be us, but it won’t be easy.
“That’s because every side, like ourselves, has added well to their squads during the summer.
“We are pleased to at least be going to Dumbarton on the back of a good win over East Fife.
“We were more like ourselves in that game.
“Some of our attacking football was impressive and we scored some good goals, which was a confidence booster after not starting the season as we had hoped.
“There was a reason for that.
“Our pre-season was curtailed by problems with Covid-19, which was far from ideal, especially with so many new signings on board.
“It was always going to take time – and a few games – for the new boys to gel and for all of us to get up to the sort of fitness levels needed to compete at this level.
“The win over East Fife was a huge step in the right direction, but we know there is still a lot of work to be done on that front.
“I missed our trip to Dumbarton last season through injury (we lost 1-0), so I’m eager to be involved this time around.
“Hopefully my performance against East Fife will help.
“I scored a penalty and also helped to set up two goals and really enjoyed playing up front with Mitch (Megginson) again.
“With the competition for places as tough as it is, you know you have to grab any opportunities that come your way.
“If selected, it will be a case of doing all I can to maintain high standards in the hope that I can remain in the starting line-up for as long as possible.”
