Defender Scott Ross spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League 1 clash against his former club Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium.
Scott said: “I always look forward to going back up to Peterhead, where I enjoyed highs and lows as a player.
“The high was winning a league title and the major low was getting relegated, although my memories from my time there are mainly positive.
“That’s because there’s a lot of really good people working behind the scenes at Peterhead.
“I’m hoping to get a chat with their groundsman Stan Stephen and kit manager Jock Morrice, who are always great company and dedicated to their club.
“It’s always nice to catch up with chairman Rodger Morrison and it’s the same with their manager, Jim McInally.
“He’s now the longest serving manager in the SPFL for the simple reason that he’s very good at his job.
“Jim will have his players fired up to make it very tough for us, that’s for sure.
“They are also facing us on the back of a very good win over Clyde.
“I saw a statistic about Clyde being the side Jim has faced most as manager of Peterhead and that his win rate over them has been amazing.
“It’s a timely reminder of just how hard it is for every side that plays them up at Balmoor.
“We are under no illusions, it’s going to take a top performance from us if we are to have any chance of coming away with the three points.
“We are at least going there in better shape, squad wise, that we’ve been for a while.
“Almost everyone was involved at training this week, which hadn’t happened at all so far this season because of having to follow the Covid protocols.
“There have been times when we’ve maybe had 15 players there then just two days later that number has been cut drastically because someone either has Covid or is being forced to isolate because they were a close contact.
“It’s been the same for most clubs, which is why nobody has really got off to a flyer in the league.
“It’s likely to be that way right to the end of the season because of the pandemic, although I’m hoping we are past the worst of it.
“It means the battle for places at the top end of the table could go right to the wire, so any points we pick up on the road could prove particularly valuable.”
Midfielder Blair Yule is suspended from tomorrow’s game, which kicks off at 3pm.
Supporters should note that our SPFL Trust Trophy Third Round tie against Albion Rovers at Balmoral Stadium on Saturday October 9 will kick off at the earlier time of 2pm to avoid clashing with the Scotland v Israel World Cup qualifier also taking place that afternoon.
