Defender Harry Milne and manager Paul Hartley spoke to the media after our 1-0 cinch League One victory over Airdrieonians at Balmoral Stadium.
Centre-back Morgyn Neill secured all three pints with a header, from a Shay Logan cross, two minutes from time.
Left-back Harry said: “It was a really good ball in from Shay.
“He’s got the quality to do that and it’s something both of us are encouraged to do by the manager.
“We are given the freedom to get forward and make a difference in the final third as often as we can.
“Morgyn actually being there to meet the cross and score came as a bit of surprise though.
“When Airdrie cleared the ball from our corner I actually turned to Scott (Ross) and asked what Morgyn was doing still up there instead of getting back, which is what we are usually expected to do.
“When Morgyn nodded the ball in Scott replied ‘that’s what he’s doing still being up there!’
“I had obviously missed that sequence in training that included Morgyn staying up!
“We are all glad he did though because it was a great header and got us a win that I feel we deserved.
“It was the sort of game that was always going to be decided by the smallest of margins.
“We had already hit the bar twice and there were occasions in our box where we had to make important blocks to stop them posing a threat on our goal.
“In the end, it was Morgyn being brave enough to stay up forward that gave us the result we all wanted.
“We are also delighted to have recorded a second clean sheet in a row in the league as well.
“I can’t remember Stuart (McKenzie) having a meaningful save to make.
“We defended really well, we were solid and kept a good shape.
“When Shay was breaking forward I was tucking in at the other side, and vice-versa.
“The two centre-halves were brilliant too, so it was a good afternoon for us.
“We have always built results on clean sheets, so hopefully we can keep up the good work as we work through the season.
“We will need to because this league is so tough anyone is capable of beating anyone.
“You can see that by the fact Dumbarton, who only stayed up last season via the play-offs, are doing very well this time around.
“It means any weekend where you pick up three points is a good one.”
Paul said: “It wasn’t the best of games, in terms of how we like to play, but we are in a business where we have to win.
“Sometimes what matters most is finding a way to do that, so I’m pleased that we did.
“We made attacking changes because we weren’t happy with the way we were playing, to bring a wee bit more of an edge to us.
“It was a great header to win it and we had another couple off the bar, so we are happy to get the three points.
“It’s great to get a clean sheet too, the two centre-halves were terrific.”
Paul was pleased to have been able to hand our most recent signing Finlay Robertson his debut.
The 18-year-old, who has joined us on loan from Dundee, came on as a substitute during the second half.
Paul said: “He’s a quality young player and I’m confident Finlay will do very well during his time with us.”
