Alloa Reaction | The Manager & McAllister

Back to news

Hat-trick hero Rory McAllister and manager Paul Hartley spoke to the media after our 3-1 cinch League One victory over Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium.

Striker Rory brought his tally for the season to an impressive nine with his treble, which included netting his fifth penalty kick of the campaign.

Rory said: “Jordon Brown (the former Cove Rangers forward who now plays for Peterhead) calls me ‘Penallister’ because of that!

“I’m sure I can expect another text from him, although I will be quick to mention the other two weren’t penalties.

“It’s always good to score, no matter how you do it, especially if you win.

“This is the best I have felt in a lot of years and long may that continue.

“I’m lucky that I have a lot of younger, energetic, players around me helping to create chances.

“As long as that is the case, I’m confident I will keep on scoring goals.

“Playing with Mitch (Megginson) helps a lot too.

“He’s quality and I feel we work very well together.

“I’m scoring the goals at the moment, but everyone knows Mitch will get more than his fair share as well over the season.

“We had to work for the win over Alloa, but I feel we deserved it.

“The good thing is, I still think there is a lot more to come from us.

“Once we do start firing on all cylinders, we will be some team to beat.

“Sometimes we aren’t quite at the races because we are still getting up to sped after being hindered by the affects of the covid pandemic.

“At least we are winning at the moment, which is what it is all about.”

The victory saw us climb to the top of League One, with previous leaders Queen’s Park facing Montrose at Firhill Stadium on Sunday.

Alloa’s chances were hindered by having Mouhamed Niang sent off after just 25 seconds of the game, for a foul on Shay Logan.

Manager Paul said: “I thought we were terrific in spells.

“It was an indifferent start because of the player getting sent-off, it changes the game plan.

“I’ve never seen that, a player sent-off after 25 seconds.

“It definitely helped us and hindered them.

“I felt we controlled the game, we moved the ball well and showed good patience.

“We played some good football too and got our rewards.

“We said at half-time that we weren’t too disappointed with how we had played.

“We asked them to keep moving the ball and we would find an opening and we did that.

“Rory (McAllister) is a terrific goal scorer, and his work rate is second to none.

“I keep saying to him ‘you want to play for as long as you can.’

“That means doing all the right things, looking after your body and working hard in training.

“Rory has been doing that, he’s been absolutely brilliant so far.

“Shay (Logan) was terrific too, he played some great balls into their box.

“We encourage our full-backs to get forward and it’s great to see them doing that.

“It’s great that we went to the top of the league, it’s where you want to be.

“I would rather be at the top than the bottom.

“But there’s a long way to go, we have only played nine games and this is a very difficult league.

“That’s three good wins on the bounce though, which is great, but we’ve got to keep working hard.”
