East Fife Reaction | The Manager & Shay Logan

Back to news

Defender Shay Logan and manager Paul Hartley spoke to the media after our 4-2 cinch League One defeat by East Fife at Bayview Stadium.

Shay said: “That simply wasn’t good enough from us, it was rubbish.

“You won’t see defending like that in a Sunday League game.

“You have to earn the right to win and we certainly didn’t do that.

“We didn’t stick to the game plan in the first half.

“We had followed a certain game plan the previous three weeks, but this time, in the first half, we just didn’t do it and we got punished.

“No matter who you are playing you have to earn the right to win.

“Bottom of the league, top of the league, it doesn’t matter, if you don’t do your jobs right you will get punished.

“Even though we had most of the possession – and were the better team overall – we got what we deserved.”

Paul said: “We didn’t give ourselves a chance, we were completely off it.

“The four goals we conceded were terrible goals.

“We had enough of the play at times but not enough quality.

“I felt we played too many direct passes to the top end of the pitch.

“But the goals (we lost) – we have got to do better as a team.

“I said it doesn’t matter who you are playing in this league, you have to be right on it.

“Every game is tough – they are bottom of the league right now – but if your attitude and work ethic are not spot on you will get done.

“We said to the players (during the interval) ‘see if you can get a goal back.’

“But you can’t then go and let in another one like we did.

“The defending was absolutely shocking, from a number of players.

“They just let the boy waltz down the line without making a challenge, that cannot be acceptable.

“You have to be on it in this league – if you aren’t you will get beaten.”
