Clyde Preview | Ryan Strachan

Back to news

Cove Rangers defender Ryan Strachan spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League One meeting with Clyde at Balmoral Stadium.

Ryan, who made his first appearance since the end of August when he came off the bench during last weekend’s 4-2 defeat away to East Fife, said: “We, as a group of players, owe it to the fans and management to show we can perform better than we did against East Fife.

“The coaching staff work hard every week to make sure we are as best prepared as we can possibly be for every game, which can’t be easy when they only have two evenings a week to work with us.

“That’s why we have to take full responsibility for what happened in that last game.

“We never got close to the sort of levels of performance they, or our fans, have a right to expect.

“I accept that you can’t always play at your very best every week.

“But, in this league in particular, you have to find ways of still claiming points on those days when you maybe aren’t playing so well, and that’s what we failed to do.

“The good thing about this game is you never have to wait too long for an opportunity to maybe do yourself more justice than you did last time out.

“Nobody really needs to tell us we are going to have to perform a lot better if we are to take anything from the match against Clyde.

“We are ignoring the fact Clyde are down near the bottom end of the table – East Fife are actually at the bottom and look what they did to us!

“Clyde are in a false position because they are a good side with some really excellent individual players.

“David Goodwillie will obviously be one we have to look out for.

“He has scored against us before … but then again Goodwillie has scored against everyone else before as well.

“We are going to have to be up for the challenge of trying to deal with him better this time around.

“Hopefully I will get a start because I really enjoyed being back involved last weekend, even though we lost the game.

“This has been among the most frustrating periods I have experienced in football.

“I missed our pre-season through injury and when I finally did get back, I suffered a calf injury in my first game.

“I then had Covid to deal with and also picked up another injury, it’s been really tough going.

“I’m feeling great now though, and hopefully I can now stay injury-free and help us get back to winning games.”
