Previous Meeting
Our last meeting with Peterhead was a tight affair at the Balmoor Stadium.
The first half was a slow starter. We had a penalty appeal in the 21st minute when it appeared Simon Ferry blocked Masson’s goal bound strike with his arm – Referee Gavin Duncan waved play on.
Scott ross then picked Mitch Megginson out with a diagonal ball in behind the Peterhead defence. Mitch did well to control and beat the Peterhead defender but his lob shot cleared the bar.
We started the second half bright. McAllister got on the end of a Vigurs free-kick and directed his header off the bar. Megginson attempted to convert the rebound but Peterhead’s goalkeeper Long did well to prevent him opening the scoring.
Fyvie was the next to go close to opening the scoring. After picking up the ball around 35 yards from goal, he danced through the Peterhead team and found a yard in the box to unleash a shot, but sliced it just wide of the right hand post.
Another appeal for a penalty was turned down in the 78th minute, after again it appeared a Peterhead defender handled the ball to block Neill’s header.
From the resulting corner, McDonald dragged Neill down in the box, and the referee had no hesitations this time to award the penalty. McAllister stepped up and slotted away, extending his goal scoring streak to 5 goals in 5 games.
Peterhead pushed forward with 10 minutes to go, but the Cove defence stayed strong and saw the game out, ensuring we kept our first clean sheet of the season.
