Scottish Cup Third Round Preview | Connor Scully

Back to news

Connor Scully spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Cup third round clash with Queen of the South at Balmoral Stadium.

Connor said: “It’s another challenging game for us, but one I’m looking forward to.

“Queen of the South are full-time and in the division above us, so they will be expected to go through to the next round.

“We always fancy ourselves against anyone at Balmoral though and are going well in our league, so we will be giving it our best shot.

“Having been at Cove my entire career, I always relished the opportunity to test myself against different opposition in the Scottish Cup.

“We’ve enjoyed some really good wins, over Airdrie and Alloa Athletic, as well as some disappointments.

“It’s great though, because you know there is always the chance to stay in the cup long enough to maybe get the opportunity to play some of Premiership sides.

“We gave Motherwell a decent fight not so long ago and, of course, we went to Ibrox last season, to play Rangers.

“Even though we lost that one, it was good for me on a personal level because I had to compete against the likes of Steven Davis, one of the best midfielders in the country.

“I’m 29 now, but I’ve only really played in midfield regularly during last five to six years.

“I’ve learned a lot off trying to deal with the likes of Davis, and the other more experienced midfielders I’ve faced since we made the step up into the SPFL.

“Even at my age, you have to be willing to work to improve as a player and competing in the Scottish Cup is a good way of doing that.”
