Queen of the South Preview | Fraser Fyvie

Back to news

Cove Rangers midfielder Fraser Fyvie previews this evening’s Scottish Cup third round replay against Queen of the South at Palmerston.

We drew 2-2 with The Doonhamers at Balmoral Stadium and head to Dumfries knowing the prize for the victors will be a trip to Easter Road to face Hibernian – the club Fraser helped win the Scottish Cup in 2016 – in the next round.

Fraser said: “The chance to play Hibs is a big incentive for everyone at our club, including financially, because you can be sure there will be a decent crowd at Easter Road.

“We need to get there first though.

“The replay with Queen of the South is the latest in what has been a very tough run of games for us recently.

“It’s important to forget about Hibs and focus fully on what needs to be done in Dumfries to keep ourselves in the competition.

“They gave us a tough game at Balmoral, so it will be the same down there, more likely even tougher.

“We can take encouragement from a lot of what happened in the first game.

“We played some great football and created loads of chances, so felt a bit aggrieved to end up only drawing the tie.

“They also got a goal that we are still convinced wasn’t a goal.

“Hopefully we will be the ones who get the breaks this time, but we know we are going to have to earn the right to be in the next round.”

Fraser is pleased to be going into the tie on the back of netting his sixth goal of the season in our 2-0 cinch League One victory over Dumbarton at the weekend, in a game that was played in horrendous weather.

He said: “The conditions in the first half were the worst I have ever played in during my career.

“Despite that, we managed the game really well and were good at implementing the style we like to play when we face teams at Balmoral.

“It was also good to get on the scoresheet again.

“The manager and I had a discussion a few weeks ago, when I mentioned I’ve always seen myself as more of a defensive midfielder.

“He sees me as someone who can do well in a more attacking role, which I’m happy to do, especially when I’m now scoring more regularly than I have done at any stage of my career.”
