Midfielder Connor Scully spoke to the media ahead of our Boxing Day cinch League One clash with East Fife at Balmoral Stadium.
“We are playing well as a team and looking defensively sound, but we never take anything for granted.” said Connor, who made his 25th appearance of the season in last weekend’s 3-0 league victory over Alloa Athletic.
“East Fife beat us down at their place the last time we played them.
“That will be uppermost in our minds – it’s a reminder that it doesn’t matter how well you are doing or who you are playing – what counts is turning up on the day and making sure you deliver your very best.”
Connor is pleased we are going into the game on the back of that 3-0 triumph over The Wasps, courtesy of goals from Jamie Masson, Rory McAllister and Mitch Megginson.
“It wasn’t our greatest performance of the season, but we got the job done” he said.
“You would prefer to win by playing entertaining football, but have to accept that won’t always be the case.
“The main thing is we worked hard and came away with the three points to keep our confidence high going into the next game.
“Winning is a good habit to get into and it’s pleasing we have managed to do that.
“It has helped us get to the top of the league, but that means very little at this stage of the season.
“Our target has to be to make sure we are still there at the end of the campaign and that is going to take a lot of hard work from everyone.”
Connor has found himself performing in a variety of positions to help us cope with a spate of injuries and suspensions, but that hasn’t bothered him in the slightest.
Connor said: “I’m just happy that the gaffer trusts me to be able to do a job wherever he chooses to play me.
“I will always give 100% anyway and I’ve been pleased with how I’ve done when asked to play in a more defensive role.
“I’ve been seen as more of an attacking player for the bulk of my career, but I knew I would need to show I could be more flexible if I hoped to feature regularly at SPFL level.
“I’ve had to curtail the urge to go charging up the pitch at times, but that’s not a problem if it helps us get the results that we want.”
