Chairman’s New Year Message

Back to news

A Happy New Year to all our fans and I hope you all had a good Christmas.

As we approach 2022, I felt it was only right that we reflect on what has been a challenging last 12 months.

Our first season in SPFL League One ended in disappointment, losing narrowly at the semi-final stage of the promotion play offs. However, we have to remind ourselves that it was our first season at that level, and we should be proud of our achievements. In some respects, it may not actually be such a bad a thing to happen as it has allowed us to strengthen both on and off the park as we go again this season.

This season it has been great having our fans back inside Balmoral Stadium and I know the players and staff get a real lift from the support that you give them. Special mention must be given to the fans who made the long midweek trip to Dumfries – what an atmosphere you created that night! As we enter the second half of the season, we do so with cautious optimism as we all know how tough a league we play in – freshening the squad is high on our agenda as we look to continue the form from the first half of the season.

Testing times are upon us again with the latest Covid regulations being introduced in football – we will just get on with it like we did last season. We are fortunate at our club to have people who focus on the task in hand and just get on with it!

Our thanks must also go to all our sponsors for their continued support throughout 2021, with special thanks to our main sponsor ACE Forwarding and to our stadium sponsor, Balmoral Group.

We also reflect on all those we have lost throughout the year. The loss of our dear friend and ex colleague Gordon Hutcheon was devastating to everyone at the club. As a club, we have also lost too many friends who were lifelong supporters of our club, and our thoughts go out to all those who have lost family and friends during another very difficult year.

We will continue to drive our club forward as we aim to make you all proud.
