Jevan Anderson | “I’m Really Happy to be Back Playing”

Back to news

After picking up a hamstring injury at the end of November, defender Jevan Anderson was delighted to return to first team action at the weekend and play his part in our 1-0 cinch League One victory over Clyde.

Jevan joined Cove Rangers from Burton Albion in the summer, but has been unfortunate with injuries since his arrival, which had forced the defender to spend two long periods on the sidelines.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, Jevan admitted it wasn’t our best performance, but added he was happy to pick up all three points from a tough game on the road.

“It wasn’t one of our best performances, we had to grind it out.” he said.

“We didn’t really get our passing game going in the final third, we were a bit sloppy at times, but like last week, around this time of the season three points is all that really matters.

“We probably played into their hands a little bit by going more direct in the first half.

“We started the second half alright and played a little bit more through the lines, which was better.

“We know ourselves we can play better, but ultimately it’s getting the three points that counts.”

After a stop-start first half of the season caused by his injuries,  Jevan was delighted to be back in the team on Saturday, helping to secure the win and complete the full 90 minutes.

In our previous visit to Broadwood earlier in the season, a top performance by Jevan was cut short by the ankle injury he sustained midway through the second half.

Jevan made his return in mid-November against Airdrieonians, but then picked up a hamstring injury in our Scottish Cup Third Round tie against Queen of the South at Balmoral Stadium the following week.

He said “I’m really happy to be back playing.

“I got my chance at Airdrie and I feel I did alright, and then obviously I hurt my hamstring in the match after that.

“Since then, the boys have been doing unbelievable well and found some great form.

“I’ve been working hard on my own and doing extra training.

“I’ve just had to be patient and wait for my chance to come.

“Thankfully I got that at the weekend, and I helped the team secure a clean sheet, which is always nice as a defender!”

Having predominantly played as a left-back or a centre-back in a back four throughout his career, Jevan said Saturday’s role as a left sided centre-back also suited him.

He said “I don’t mind it, it is something I have done a few times, and I have played at left-back as well, so I’m used to being in wider areas.

“It’s obviously slightly different with your wing-back playing higher as opposed to having your full-back right next to you, but I enjoyed it.

“It helps us to build out as well when playing as a back three.

“People might look at that formation and think it’s defensive, but it allows us to play out from the back and dominate the ball by getting up through the thirds.”

On Saturday we come up against Stewart Petrie’s in-form Montrose, who sit in second spot in League One.

Jevan said “It is a massive game because the both of us are up at the top of the table at the moment.

“We just need to look after ourselves.

“We accept we will need to be better than we were last weekend, but if we play like we know we can then we can get the result we want.”
