Harry Milne | “We Still Have a Lot to Look Forward to”

Back to news

Full-back Harry Milne is confident losing to Hibernian in the Scottish Cup won’t derail our chances of continuing to do well in cinch League One – or our bid to reach the final of the SPFL Trust Trophy for the first time.

Harry admitted it hurt going down 1-0 at Easter Road to a goal late in extra-time, but as soon as the final whistle went his mind was already on our next league fixture, away to Dumbarton on Saturday.

With the SPFL Trust Trophy semi-final clash with Queen of the South also now scheduled to take place at Balmoral Stadium on March 1, Harry accepts the squad have to forget the defeat in Edinburgh and focus on the tough games ahead.

“We still have a lot to look forward to,” said Harry.

“Unfortunately, I’m suspended from the cup semi, but if the lads play as well as we did against Hibs then we will have a good chance of making the final.

“But the main focus now has to be back on doing what we can to continue our good run in the league.

“It’s a very tough league, we saw that last season when Falkirk were in a good position and things changed towards the end.

“We need to make sure that doesn’t happen again because we’ve said time and time again you get no easy games in this division.”

Harry has taken a lot of encouragement from the way we went toe-to-toe with Hibs and went within a few minutes of taking the tie to penalty kicks.

He said: “They are full-time and established in the Premiership, so we are proud we were able to push them all the way in the manner that we did.

“Being undone so late was hard to take, but it was a really good performance and the effort put in by everyone was unbelievable.

“We were on a pitch that’s a bit bigger than we are used to at Balmoral Stadium – and we have a big pitch.

“The one at Easter Road seemed wider and when you were chasing the ball it took a lot out of your legs.

“I remember saying to (Connor) Scully after about 75 minutes that my calves had gone and I was glad there was going to be a replay.

“You can imagine my shock when he told me there would be extra-time.

“Everyone just got on with it though and did what was needed to keep competing with Hibs.

“We did well when we had the ball as well and created chances of our own and could have got the result we wanted if we had got a lucky break here and there.

“You could see by how gutted everyone was at the end how much we wanted to get through to the next round.

“If we had lost a goal in something like 50 minutes it might have been easier to deal with, but we just have to get over it.

“It just wasn’t our day, but it was some effort.

“There would have been a lot of neutrals watching to see what we are about this year.

“We’ve moved up the leagues quite quickly and are now looking for our third promotion in four years.

“We are also top of our league, in quite a good position, although we know there’s nothing done and dusted yet.

“That meant there would have been a lot of people turning their heads towards us and it was a chance for us to show them, especially with the tie live on television as well.

“Even though we lost, I feel we gave a really good account of ourselves.”
