Dumbarton Preview | Mitch Megginson

Back to news

Team captain Mitch Megginson spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League One clash with Dumbarton at the moreroom.com Stadium.

Mitch said: “We have been on a brilliant run in the league, but we accept it’s always about what we do in the next game.

“Ask anyone and they will tell you every match in our division is tough.

“Every week, its a case doing what’s needed to grind out results.

“There are times when we’ve managed to win with a bit of style, by playing the attacking football that we all enjoy being a part of.

“But there have also been occasions when it hasn’t been all that pretty, but we have got over the line because of hard work and our sheer determination.

“That was certainly the case in our last league game, against Montrose.

“We weren’t helped by losing players, including myself, in the first half because of injuries.

“But that match was probably the first time this season when we didn’t dominate possession, especially at Balmoral Stadium.

“When that happens you need to be strong defensively and we were certainly that.

“The guys at the back were brilliant in the way they went about limiting the amount of real chances Montrose created and that’s what secured us the three points in the end.

“That defensive strength was highlighted again when we lost narrowly to Hibs in the Scottish Cup.

“We have taken a lot of encouragement from the way we were able to compete with one of the top sides in the country and take them to extra-time.

“The tie at Easter Road being played on a Thursday has also given us a longer break than we have had for a while between games.

“The manager gave us the weekend off, so that we could get a much needed rest that should help us be ready to go against Dumbarton.

“They are one of my former clubs and I really enjoyed my spell with Dumbarton, so it’s always nice to go back.

“But I will only really enjoy it if we get the three points –  and all of us know that’s something we are going to have to earn.”
