Dumbarton Reaction | The Manager & Connor Scully

Back to news

Manager Paul Hartley and midfielder Connor Scully spoke to the media after our 2-2 cinch League One draw with Dumbarton at the moreroom.com Stadium.

Connor had put us 2-1 up after we trailed 1-0 at the interval, but Sons skipper Stuart Carswell ensured things would end all square when he netted from a late, hotly disputed, penalty kick.

Paul said: “ We weren’t really at it in the first half, not up to our usual standards.

“We then go a goal down, because of bad judgement, but we adjusted things for the second half and I thought we were terrific from then on.

“We played some great football in the conditions and created some really good opportunities and should have come away with the three points.

“We didn’t because of the penalty kick, it was a disgraceful decision.

“I’ve seen the footage, so don’t see how that could be given as a penalty.

“How the linesman doesn’t help, he has the better view and must have seen clearly that Fyvie takes the ball.

“The referee has made a bad decision .

“It was good that we took something though, and stayed undefeated, because the conditions weren’t suited to a good game of football.

“We had to fight, had to dig in and really work our socks off and the players deserved some reward for doing that.”

Connor claimed what was his second goal of the campaign within three minutes of Rory McAllister drawing us level, from the penalty spot.

The midfielder is delighted to have scored, but annoyed he failed to add to his tally soon afterwards to put us 3-1 up.

“I should have scored again, but the ball just bounced up in front of me and I couldn’t get it on target,” said Connor.

“It’s disappointing because if we had gone two goals ahead I doubt if we would have dropped any points, but these things happen in football.

“We did at least come away with a point, so it’s a case of moving on to the next game and seeing if we can win that instead.”
