Airdrieonians Reaction | The Manager and Harry Milne

Back to news

Full-back Harry Milne and manager Paul Hartley spoke to the media after our 1-1 cinch League One draw with Airdrieonians at Balmoral Stadium.

Harry, who scored his first goal of the season and was voted man-of-the-match by sponsors AG Sports Brand – said: “It was an exciting match to be involved in.

“Both teams did their best to try and win it, it was clear neither of us wanted a draw, it was end to end and breathless at times.

“You like playing in games like that, when there is a fast pace and both teams are passing the ball well and looking to create chances.

“Looking back now, it’s a good thing that we didn’t lose the game.

“But winning is everything to us, so only picking up a point, especially at home, is still disappointing.

“Especially when we had managed to get ourselves ahead.

“We knew when we went in at half-time they would come back out and have a right go at us because Airdrie are a good team.

“We wanted to hold on to our advantage because if we had managed to go 10 points clear that’s a lot to make up with the amount of games that are left.

“A draw was probably fair when you see how they played in the second half though, so we can have no complaints.

“I’m pleased to have scored, even more so because it was with my right foot, which is very unusual.

“I can’t remember if I have ever scored with my right before, if I did it would probably have been a tap-in.

“I managed to aim my shot this time and put the ball right in the corner, which I was very happy about.

“The quality of Rory McAllister’s lay-off helped a lot.

“Everyone knows how brilliant Rory is at scoring goals, but he is a great target man for us as well.

“You know, no matter where he is or how closely marked he is, you can send the ball in to Rory and he will be able to take it in and hold off defenders until you are in position to collect the return.

“I knew when I passed to Rory that, if continued my run, he would return it with perfect weight into my path.”

Manager Paul said: “We had a lot of chances to bury the game, but lost a wee bit of control in the last half hour, so a draw was a fair result.

“Harry was excellent and scored a really good goal.

“It came from the sort of stuff we work on in training and it was a really composed finish.

“Harry was a real threat for us going forward and did a great job defensively too.

“But we had a lot of good performances.

“At this end of the season, you are never going to get an easy game.

“It’s going to be tough so you are going to have to fight to find ways to pick up points.

“When you look at the other results you can see why you have to be on it every week.

“We are in a nice position but we never look too far ahead because we know that things can turn really quickly in football.”
