Queen’s Park Reaction | The Manager & Iain Vigurs

Back to news

Manager Paul Hartley and midfielder Iain Vigurs spoke to the media following our 0-0 draw with Queen’s Park at Balmoral Stadium on Saturday.

Paul said: “It was a really frustrating game.

“We had enough of the ball, and we had enough opportunities, but in the final third we just didn’t have enough quality.

“There were plenty of crosses into the box, but we just needed to show a bit more desire at times to score a goal.

“This is what happens at this stage of the season, there are no easy games, they are all going to be difficult.

“With them going down to ten-men we controlled the game, but we didn’t move the ball quick enough at times, and we didn’t use the width enough.

“It’s another game down, we are still five points clear at the top of the table.

“When you are at the top end of the table you need to be on it every week.

“You need to give Queen’s Park credit, they defended in numbers.

“Just that final bit of quality didn’t happen for us.

“We knew it was never going to be easy, but you are at the business end where you have to find a way of winning.”

Iain Vigurs was equally as frustrated not to get the win, saying: “If I’m being honest, I don’t think we deserved the three points.”

“I don’t think we did enough with the ball, I thought we were pretty pedestrian after they got a man sent off, which is disappointing because we’ve got some good players all over the pitch, especially in the final third.

“We did have a few good chances throughout the match, but we didn’t work their goalkeeper enough.

“A draw was probably the fair result in the end.”

Iain believed we should have worked the Spiders more, particularly following Longstaff’s sending off in the 34th minute.

“When they go down to ten-men, we had the man advantage and we needed to make it count but we didn’t do enough.”, he said.

“We just could have used the ball a little bit better in the final third.

“As a team we should have and could have moved them more to create openings, as Queen’s Park were happy to sit in, but we didn’t.

“We lacked the basics in terms of moving the ball, opting to find someone with a 30-yard pass instead of a simple 5-yard pass which would help to move them about more and tire them.

“Although we are disappointed not to get the win, it is another point gained, and it’s another game where we haven’t lost.

“But ultimately you really have to look at it as two points dropped considering the length of time they were down to ten-men.”
