Peterhead Preview | Connor Scully

Back to news

Midfielder Connor Scully spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow’s cinch League One meeting with Peterhead at Balmoral Stadium.

Connor said: “It’s a massive game for us, but you could say that about every meeting with Peterhead.

“It’s a local derby, which always adds a little bit of extra spice.

“The two sets of players also know each other very well, as friends or from having been team-mates at some stage.

“Both camps are always eager to secure the bragging rights.

“They are games that you know you have to perform at your best in or you will be punished.

“Nobody needs to tell us how good a team Peterhead are.

“They have a lot of depth in their squad and their manager is now the longest serving in Scotland and you can be sure he will have them set up to make it extremely difficult for us.

“It’s also the first of the nine league games we have left, we know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us if we are to end the campaign on a positive note.

“It would obviously have been great if we had gone into the match having booked a place in the final of the SPFL Trust Trophy, but it wasn’t to be.

“We have always said what happens in the cups is a bonus, how we get on in the league has always been the priority for Cove Rangers.

“Losing as we did to Queen of the South hurts, but defeats like that can happen in football, so you just have to take it on the chin and move on.

“If we play as well as did in the cup tie in our remaining league games we will have a decent chance of gathering points.

“It was probably the most dominant game I have ever played in, it felt like we were in full control after they scored their early goal.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the break we needed in the final third and that ensured the goal saw them through.

“It won’t affect our confidence or eagerness to go again though.

“You have to be up for it when you are playing Peterhead, and we will be.”
