Clyde Reaction | Paul Hartley & Connor Scully

Back to news

Manager Paul Hartley and Connor Scully spoke to the media following Saturday’s 4-1 cinch League One victory over Clyde.

Captain Mitch Megginson netted his 20th goal for the campaign to give us the lead, however, just moments later, referee Craig Napier controversially awarded Clyde a penalty and sent off Harry Milne.

Despite clearly blocking Barry Cuddihy’s goal bound shot with his chest, the referee judged Milne to have handled the ball, and Ally Love made no mistake from the spot to pull the visitors back on level terms.

Fraser Fyvie ensured we went into the break ahead, slotting away a curling effort into the back of the net in the 44th minute.

Shortly after the break, Mark Reynolds scored his first goal for the club, smashing his effort into the top right corner beyond Clyde keeper Gary Maley.

Substitute Leighton McIntosh came off the bench and made sure there was no way back for the visitors, by finishing off a nice counter-attacking move in the 70th minute.

Manager Paul Hartley said: “I thought we were comfortable, even for the 60 minutes we were down to 10 men, which was really pleasing.

“Defensively, we were really disciplined and held a good shape.

“We were never really put under too much pressure.

“We scored some really good goals, at good times as well.

“Harry Milne should never have been sent off, the ball strikes him on the shoulder – it’s one we will definitely appeal.

“Referees can sometimes make mistakes, we just had to get on with it.

“Overall, it was a really good, strong team performance, and it’s another great three points for us.”

Paul was delighted to see central defender Mark on target for the first time since joining the club in January.

“It’s really pleasing that Mark was able to get his first goal for the club,” he said.

“He has been a great addition for us, as first and foremost he’s a good defender, but he is also very calm at the back and he has a lot of experience.”

Shay Logan made his first appearance since picking up an injury in our 1-0 victory over Montrose back in January.

Paul was happy to have the right-back available again, saying: “It was pleasing to have Shay back in the team.

“I would have liked to have kept the same team from last weekend, but Scott Ross dropped out due to a back injury.

“Despite just being back from injury, Shay was more than happy to start, and it was great he managed to last 80 minutes.”

Connor Scully was full of praise for his teammates for the hard work they put in to ensure we secured the three points, despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men.

Connor said: “I thought every single player played really well.

“I don’t think it was a handball, it was a really good block on the line by Harry, I was right beside it and it was clear to see.

“The character we showed after the red card decision was really good.

“We had to play 60 minutes with 10 men, but it didn’t affect us.

“It was great that we got the win and managed to score four goals.”

Scully was voted man-of-the-match by match sponsors Load Monitoring Systems for his impressive performance, which involved playing at left-back for the remainder of the game after Milne’s sending off.

Connor said: “When Harry’s not available I get asked to slot in at left-back, I’ve done it a few times throughout the season now so I’m more than happy to play that position.

“No matter what position I play I will always give 100%, I’m just happy to be on the pitch.

“I’m delighted to have been selected as man-of-the-match, although I should’ve scored one to be fair.

“I scored one against Clyde last season, and I was on the scoresheet when we faced them at Balmoral Stadium earlier this season, so it would have been brilliant to keep the streak going!”
