CRFC Supports Football Memories Programme

Back to news

Former Cove Rangers and Dons defender Willie Garner was the star guest when Balmoral Stadium played host to the latest session of Football Memories Aberdeen.

Football Memories is a programme run by Alzheimer Scotland, who believe that football reminiscence may help people living with dementia become active.

They host regular sessions throughout Scotland, which also give families caring for someone with dementia the opportunity to have a short break.

Willie, a League Cup and Scottish Premier League title winner with Aberdeen – who was also Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at Pittodrie in the 1980s – took his winners’ medals along and spoke about his lengthy career in professional football.

Open to anyone suffering from Alzheimers Disease, Dementia or is feeling isolated, the sessions also include the use of archive newspapers, old football programmes and photographs to help spark happy memories for those in attendance.

Cove Rangers are delighted to support such a worthy cause and the next session at Balmoral Stadium is on Monday, March 28th at 2pm.

Anyone interested in attending can contact organiser Charlie Craig on 07894200829.
