“The Challenge Now is to See if We Can Keep that Good Run Going” | Shay Logan

Back to news

Right-back Shay Logan is delighted we are going into this weekend’s visit to Airdrieonians having extended our unbeaten run in cinch League One to 20 matches.

Last weekend’s 2-1 win at Montrose means we haven’t lost in the league since October as we prepare for Saturday’s meeting with the Diamonds.

Shay, however, was quick to point out he has only been partly responsible for that good run because the win at Links Park was only his second appearance since returning from a lengthy injury absence.

Shay said “I was out for nearly eight weeks, so I have to say the boys have been excellent.

“No matter who we’ve had injured or suspended, they have just pushed on.

“We know we’ve got a strong squad and – whether it be home or away – we will make it hard for anyone to beat us.

“You don’t get to 20 games without losing if that isn’t the case.

“The challenge now is to see if we can keep that run going at Airdrie, although we won’t be treating it any differently to any other.

“It doesn’t matter if we are playing Airdrie, Falkirk or Montrose, we go in with the same focus with the aim to come away with the three points.

“We are in great form and they have also been on an excellent run, so it should be an exciting 90 minutes.

“If we are to keep winning we know we will need to be at our very best.

“But Airdrie also know they will have to deliver their best if they are to have any chance of beating us.”

Shay played a key part in the victory at Montrose, delivering the crosses that led to Mitch Megginson and Fraser Fyvie scoring to help us edge out the Gable Endies.

“We do a lot of work on that sort of stuff in training, so you are always pleased to see it pay off in matches,” said Shay.

“I pride myself in my ability to put balls like those into the area – it’s why you might see me get frustrated sometimes when the ball doesn’t come out to me.

“But you also need other players to make the right runs to get on the end of them.

“When they do, the game suddenly becomes that bit easier for all of us.”

“What wasn’t easy was the second half at Montrose, during which we had to repel waves of high balls being lobbed into our area.”

Shay is pleased with the way we managed to do that – with centre-back Morgyn Neill receiving some special praise from his more experienced team-mate.

Shay said: “It looked as if it was going get harder for us because we conceded to them just before half-time, but it ended up being pretty comfortable.

“That was because all three of the lads at the back (Morgyn Neill, Scott Ross and Mark Reynolds) were immense and dealt with everything that was thrown at us with confidence.

“I was particularly pleased to see Morgyn getting praised for his performance.

“He’s an old school centre-half, he is an absolute beast when it comes to defending.

“Morgyn is one of my favourite people at the club.

“He’s a good lad, a really nice person, but also great at what we need him to do out on the pitch.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute that I’ve played alongside him so far.

“Hopefully I will have a lot more opportunities to play alongside Morgyn for Cove, we are a good fit.”
