Club’s Longest Serving Back Room Staff Announce Retirement

Back to news

Two of the club’s longest serving back room staff, who found love through Cove Rangers, have announced they are calling it a day at the end of this season.

George and Rhonda Allan have given a combined total of 68 years service to the club, latterly looking after guests in the boardroom and corporate lounge at Balmoral Stadium.

It has been a labour of love for both, because they also met while working for Cove Rangers and have now been married for more than 30 years.

Rhonda, who has worked for the club since 1990 and had the honour of dishing up the last pie ever sold at our previous home, Allan Park, said: “We found each other, which is why we will be leaving with heavy hearts.

“Unfortunately, we’re not as young as we used to be, so decided it was time to step aside and give others the opportunity have a go at the jobs we have enjoyed all these years.”

Husband George, who became involved after answering an advert posted by Cove Rangers in 1986 for volunteers to come forward and help out on match days, added: “The club has been such a huge part of our lives since the day we met – but is also the reason we met.

“We have loved every second we have been involved.”

Cove Rangers chairman Keith Moorhouse said: “People like George and Rhonda are the lifeblood of clubs like ours.

“We have appreciated all the work they have done over the last four decades, they have been terrific ambassadors for the club as well as excellent hosts to our guests on match days.

“It will be a sad day when they finally leave us, but it will be with our gratitude and hope that they enjoy their retirement together.”
