Title Reaction | Connor Scully

Connor Scully admits winning the cinch League One title with Cove Rangers has been an emotional experience for him.

Connor is a born and bred ‘Cove Loon’ who has spent his entire playing career at the club.

He said: “It’s hard to put what it means to me into words, it’s just incredible.

“If someone had told me just four years ago I would be celebrating helping Cove get all the way to the Championship I would have probably laughed, but we have done it.

“I will remember the day, and the moment, for the rest of my life.

“It’s my home town club, I’ve always lived only about two minutes away from where Cove Rangers played, whether it was at Balmoral Stadium or Allan Park.

“The club has always been a part of my life, part of the lives of my whole family, so it’s special to have played a part in achieving what we have this season.”

Connor thanked manager Paul Hartley for giving him the opportunity to play at SPFL level after he had helped Cove Rangers gain promotion, via the play-offs, just three years ago.

“I know he could have looked to take in more players who had more experience of playing at that level,” he said.

“I’ve worked hard to repay him and earn the right to be involved though.

“The manager knows I will give him 100% in every game.

“If he wants me to track back and do the running I will, if he asks me to play further forward I will do that too.

“You will never see me just sitting back and not trying to make some sort of impact.

“It’s probably why he has kept me in there for most of the three seasons since we made the step up – hopefully that will continue.

“What I like too is I’m not the only one who has come up from the Highland League and played a part in this memorable season.

“There’s around eight of us and it’s fair to say we have all relished the opportunity given to us.

“The manager has obviously brought in other guys who had played at higher levels, it would have been difficult to do what we have without them.

“The fact they had such great experience meant they just slotted in with no problems and we have a great squad of guys with a real team bond.”

Connor now has his sights set on staying involved when we play in the Championship next season.

“It will be hard work, but I’ve never been afraid of that,” he said.

“I love playing for Cove Rangers and I’m determined to keep doing that for as long as I possibly can.”
