Fyvie demands better showing

Back to news

Fraser Fyvie is looking for a vast improvement in performance levels when we conclude our Premier Sports Cup campaign away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Successive Group G defeats to Livingston and Kelty Hearts mean we can no longer qualify for the group stages of the tournament.

Midfielder Fyvie admitted he’s disappointed by that, but insists it’s important the team do well in Inverness in what is also the last game before kicking off the Championship campaign at home to Raith Rovers.

Fraser said: “Not to disrespect the competition, but it’s obvious it has come a little bit early for us in terms of adjusting to a manager moving on and adapting to the one who has replaced him.

“It’s taking time for us to get used to his ideas, but you can see we are making progress; there have been spells when we have played some really good stuff.

“We know we can – and must – do much better, it’s up to us to now prove it out on the park.

“It’s a case of cutting out the mistakes that cost us the chance to get more from last two games. To be honest, we made schoolboy errors at some of the goals we conceded, which isn’t like us at all.

“Nobody needs to tell us that, we are an honest bunch who know – as a team and as individuals- when we haven’t performed as well as should be expected.

“We know we left ourselves too much to do by losing two goals to Kelty in the first half and that we were careless when it came to taking advantage of Livingston getting a player sent off in the game against us.

“Those are in the past though, the priority now is to go to Inverness and do our utmost to put on a better show.”

Fraser acknowledges that will be a tough task against a Caley Thistle outfit seeking to maintain their one hundred percent start to the campaign:

“We know it won’t be easy, they are one of the strongest sides in the Championship, and will be looking for the win that will guarantee they go through to the next stage of this competition.

“It’s big a challenge, which includes switching back to playing on grass again, but we are looking forward to it.

“We will be aiming to avoid giving them any sort of advantage from our mistakes, then try to impose the way we like to play on them.

“If we can raise the performance, and get a positive result, it would give us a lot of encouragement going into the league programme, which has always been the priority.”
