Fox Excited For New Challenge

Back to news

Experienced goalkeeper Scott Fox has become Paul Hartley’s third signing of the January transfer window.

He joins on an eighteen-month deal having left Motherwell FC shortly before Christmas.

“It all happened very quickly. Both parties wanted to get it over the line, and I’m pleased we were able to come to an agreement. I’ve known Paul Hartley since I was a young boy, so I’m going to have to get used to calling him gaffer!”

“I’ve been aware of what has been happening here in recent years. The club has been doing really well and it was always going to be more difficult being a part-time team in the Championship.

“There are a lot of good teams in this league, it is tough, and given most are full-time we were always going to be the underdogs. Obviously, I’ve got a lot of good mates in football, many of them are playing in the Championship, so I’ve been keeping across it.”

Scott began his career as a teenager at Celtic Park, but it was not until he joined Partick Thistle in 2010 that he got a regular run of games. For the next decade, he was first choice at Firhill then later with Ross County, and he played well over three hundred matches. He is someone Paul Hartley has always kept an eye on:

“I’ve known Scott since he was a kid at Celtic. He’s a great boy and a very good goalkeeper. At this stage of his career, he has a wealth of experience and he’s played a lot of games in the top-flight and at Championship level.

“Scott is an organiser and a very good shot-stopper. I’m delighted to have got this deal over the line; he will be a valuable addition to the team.”

Having not played as much in the last couple of seasons, and having overcome a serious knee injury, Scott says he cannot wait to get started with Cove:

“I’ve experienced pretty much everything in my career. I’ve had liquidations and administrations, relegations and promotions, so I’m ready for anything. I’ve not played as much as I would have wanted to in the last couple of seasons, but I’m fit, I can train every day, and at thirty-five, I feel I’ve still got a good few years ahead of me.”

“When I got the ACL injury, I did initially wonder if it was worth even trying to get back playing, but after a couple of weeks I got the fire back, and cracked on. The last loan I was on at Queen of the South didn’t work out as I would have hoped, but now I’m raring to go, and there’s that excitement about taking on a new challenge.

“All I want to do now is play as many games as I can and help Cove Rangers get the points we need to stay in this division.”

Scott trained with his new team-mates for the first time this evening, and has agreed a contract until summer 2024. He wear shirt number twelve this season.
