The club would like to place on record its gratitude to everyone who ensured yesterday’s league match with Edinburgh City went ahead.
After heavy overnight snow, the pitch was completely covered, and it was only thanks to the volunteers with shovels – among them, Paul Hartley, his coaching staff, other Cove employees and our amazing fans – that there was any chance of the game being played.
Keith Moorhouse says a special thank you must go to Inverurie Locos Chairman Mike Macaulay. After our initial plans fell through, Mike quite literally rode to our rescue, making the trip to Balmoral Stadium with his plough where he proceeded to clear the remaining snow:
“It was a brilliant gesture by Mike, and it shows the strength of the friendships we made during our time in the Highland League. On what was a miserable day, he didn’t need to do that, but he was happy to come across, and it was down to his efforts that the pitch was eventually deemed playable.
“I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Mike, and everyone else who helped out, and wish all Cove Rangers fans a Merry Christmas! Given what the team then went out and did, it was just reward for all their hard work!”
