We head to the Falkirk Stadium on Tuesday night for a match originally due to have taken place at the start of December and which was postponed because of heavy snow.
It will be our second meeting of the season, the earlier encounter at Balmoral Stadium ending in a 2-2 draw. It was a game in which Cove led twice and had to repel waves of attack before the visitors finally snatched an equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Historically, we have had the upper hand in the fixture. Falkirk won the first league encounter back in November 2020, but Cove are unbeaten in the seven meetings since, and that is a run Paul Hartley hopes to see extended:
“We have always had a good record against them and came so close to beating Falkirk at the start of the season.
“It is going to take a strong performance, a full ninety minutes. We know we weren’t great second half against Kelty at the weekend, mistakes cost us, but we continued to create chances and there wasn’t an awful lot wrong.
“It is down to key moments, and we have to make the most of those.
“It’s worth remembering we’ve only lost once in fourteen games, so the confidence should still be high, and we will go there with a game plan we feel can produce a positive result.”
John McGlynn’s side has enjoyed an outstanding campaign to date. Their only defeat all season came in a Viaplay Cup group game against Dundee United in late July, and they have not lost in their last twenty-four matches. That run has seen them open up an eight point lead at the top of the table, and they are odds-on favourites to finally return to the Championship five years after being relegated to the third tier.
Paul is well aware of the threat the league leaders pose:
“They can cause problems all over the park, their results show that. They have good, quick players and are a danger up front, and they’ve been flying this season. It’s up to us to find a way to stop them and to try to impose ourselves on the game, to play the way we want to, the way that has served us well in recent months.”
The manager will again be without long term injury victims Luke Strachan, Balint Demus and Fraser Fyvie, and with a number of players carrying knocks, and others recovering from a bug which has hit the squad, a late decision will be made on team selection.
