Having been knocked out of the Scottish Cup, despite a fine showing against Premiership high-fliers Kilmarnock, the focus for the management and players will now be on securing a top four finish, and a place in the end of season promotion play-offs.
Without a League One win in 2024, everyone at Balmoral Stadium knows it is likely to be a hard-fought conclusion to the campaign, with six teams battling it out for what seems certain to be two remaining slots.
Cove currently sit third, but with Saturday’s opponents Alloa Athletic, and Kelty Hearts, both facing winnable matches on Tuesday night – at home to Annan Athletic and Edinburgh City respectively – the league table could be even tighter by the time we make the weekend trip to The Indodrill.
The head-to-heads between the contenders will carry extra weight over the next couple of months, and as we take on Alloa on Saturday, Montrose will be playing hosts to Kelty. It could be a pivotal afternoon.
Having praised his players’ efforts against Killie, manager Paul Hartley is looking for more of the same at the weekend:
“We know how tough it is going to be, it’s down to a thirteen game season for us now, but I have absolute faith in the players, and with no more cup distractions, we will be giving everything we have to make sure we stay in the top four.”
Ticket information for supporters planning on travelling to Alloa will be published tomorrow and there will be further preview material in the coming days. We look forward to seeing you down there ready to play your part in the play-off push!
