Our long-serving club secretary, Duncan Little, was honoured last night with a Lifetime Achievement prize at the Evening Express Aberdeen Sports Awards.
Duncan, who stepped down last summer after more than three decades in the post, was nominated by our ex media officer, Charlie Allan, and the award, presented at a gala dinner at P&J Live, was deserved recognition for his tireless efforts over the years.
Many people contributed to the club’s rise from the amateur ranks, through the Highland League and up into the SPFL, but few have given as much as ‘Mr Cove Rangers’.
He first started attending Cove matches when he just a boy, and become one of the first members of the social club when it opened in 1984. His official involvement began two years later, doing a myriad of jobs behind the scenes, and Duncan was appointed secretary in 1991.
He had been in post all the way through until the end of last season, right at the heart of everything as the club was transformed, and was a key figure in ensuring we were able to meet all the off-field demands of the various divisions we were elevated to.
Always ready with an answer to the many questions posed by players, managers or the board of directors, Duncan was a calm, reassuring presence throughout his lengthy career, and remains a popular figure at Balmoral Stadium; he was never likely to give up entirely!
Everyone at the club would like to pass on our heartfelt congratulations.
