Pre-Season Begins | Back At Work

Back to news

Preparations for the 2024/25 campaign began in earnest at Balmoral Stadium this morning as the squad gathered for the first pre-season session of the summer.

Included in the group were a number of trialists who will be assessed over the next few weeks as they attempt to secure full-time contracts with the club.

Manager Paul Hartley was delighted with the efforts put in by all the players:

“It was a really good session, the boys looked sharp and they all worked hard. The tempo was impressive and it was a good start to building that base fitness for the season ahead.

“As for the trialists, they will be with us over the next couple of weeks which will give me the chance to see them in the opening friendlies, and we can make a decision after that.”

Captain Mitch Megginson was among the more experienced squad members taking part today, and he says it was good to be back out on the pitch:

“You’re always a bit nervous before that first session, but once you get going it’s fine. There were a few new faces there today, and getting to know the names is a bit of an issue, but the boys put in a really solid couple of hours, and it was a good start to the build-up ahead of the matches.

“To be fair, you get a pre- pre-season programme, so we’ve all been doing that, and the lads come back fit, but it is important to do the squad work as we get ready for the big kick-off.”

The full interview with Mitch can be viewed at the Cove Rangers FC YouTube channel.
