Cole Donaldson | Young Prospect Signs On

Back to news

The club is delighted to announce the signing of promising teenage midfielder, Cole Donaldson.

The sixteen year old had been training with the club, and has featured as a trialist during the pre-season friendlies. The manager, Paul Hartley, liked what he saw and moved quickly to bring the youngster in:

“He’s a talented player. The good thing about Cole is he has not come through an academy, which has probably been a good thing for him. He’s a natural talent, a bit of an old school street footballer if you like, and has great ability. He can play as a number eight, or a number ten, and the quality is there for everyone to see.”

Cole comes from a football family, his father Dean had a glowing Highland League career and is now manager of Inverurie Locos, and is the latest young player to be brought to the club with an eye to the future following last summer’s signings of Milosz Ochmanski, Jack Robertson, Mikey Milnes and Myles Gaffney.

Paul says he is looking forward to playing a part in Cole’s development:

“He has only just turned sixteen, so we’ll be patient and work with him over the next eighteen months, but from what I’ve seen so far, he’s fitted in with the first team no problem, and if he develops as I anticipate, I think we’re going to have a really good player on our hands.

“He is one for the future, but I wouldn’t rule out the chances of him being involved in the team as the season goes on.”

Cole has signed a two-year deal. Welcome to Balmoral Stadium!
