Kelty Hearts (A) | Match Preview

Back to news

Our League One campaign resumes this weekend with a trip to Kelty to take on the early season pacesetters.

Michael Tidser’s side are unbeaten in five, two wins and three draws, and currently top the division on goal difference ahead of Stenhousemuir and Alloa Athletic. The league is however so tight that a Cove win would see us move to within two points of the New Central Park outfit.

We took maximum points from our visits there last time round, and Paul Hartley hopes his men can draw on that experience:

“Those were two good days, we got the goal in each, and we defended well. It’s probably going to be a similar game on Saturday, because that’s what this league is all about.

“The four meetings last season were all really tight, and they’ve started well, but no-one is running away with it, winning all their games, and a couple of results puts you right back up there.”

The manager is looking for the team to replicate the performance in our last league match, the 1-0 win over Montrose a fortnight ago:

“We were really strong that day and that’s what we are going to need at Kelty. We have let in poor goals this season, but overall, the play has been very good and we’re creating chances, scoring goals. We just have to make sure we are on it, fully focused, for the whole game.”

There was a pre-match boost with Arron Darge agreeing a new contract, and Paul will have a full squad to choose from, his options bolstered by the return of the cup-tied loan quartet of Findlay Marshall, Adam Emslie, Reuben McAllister and Liam Parker:

“We had a lot of young boys on the bench last week, and we couldn’t put them on against an experienced East Kilbride team, so it is a big help to have that strength in depth.

“They’ve got players who know all about this league and some good youngsters too, they have an energy which we are going to have to match.”

“I try not to look too far ahead because every game is demanding, but we are entering what will be a tough spell. The players know what is expected of them and we’ve got to go down there, look at what we did last year, two wins, two clean sheets, and have that as our target.”

The summer transfer window has now closed, but League One clubs still have the option to bring players in before the end of September. Does Paul expect to do any more business?

“I don’t know. We still have one loan that we can use, but trying to find someone at the top end of the pitch, which is where we would be looking, is not easy. I’ve been making the calls, and will continue to do so, but it’s difficult finding a striker who’s available and who would do the job we want.”
