New Deal For Darge

Back to news

We are delighted to announce that Arron Darge has signed a new contract which will see him remain at Balmoral Stadium until at least the summer of 2026.

Last season’s Young Player of the Year, Arron joined Cove Rangers in the summer of 2023, and while it took him a little time to secure his place in the side, since he did, he has been one of the first names on Paul Hartley’s team sheet.

It was a scenario the twenty-one year old anticipated:

“I hadn’t really played a lot of games in the league when I first signed, I’d been in the Lowland League and with Hearts B, so I kind of expected that coming out of the academy into men’s football. I knew I was going to have to fight my way into the team.”

When he did so, Arron made a huge impression. He has now started our last twenty-one league and cup games, and will reach his half century of appearances within the next couple of months:

“It’s down to the gaffer’s choice every week and I just have to try not to give him any reason to leave me out of the team.”

The manager is pleased that Arron has committed his future to the club:

“He’s a model professional, he gives his all in training and during the games, and he never gives me any bother at all. He just gets on with the job. I know I can rely on him either at right-back or in the middle of the pitch, and he is as good a tackler as I have seen in years. I’m really happy we have got him tied up.”

Arron says he was eager to sign on again and is pleased he has a bit of security with the extended deal:

“It’s nice to have that, I’ve really enjoyed my year or so up here having moved away from home for the first time, and I’m really settled with the boys. There were a lot of changes last year, but it’s a tighter group now, we all get on really well, and that counts for a lot.”

There has been much debate over where Arron’s best position is, and that is something even he has yet to establish:

“I have played a lot at right-back, but I was pushed up in the last league game against Montrose, and I’ve obviously played plenty in the middle too. At some point I guess we will have to look to settling on one position and maybe that will evolve the more games I play.

“For now, I’m just happy to keep playing consistently at this level and taking what I hope will be a big step in my career development.”

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Arron on his new deal and we look forward to seeing much more of him in a Cove shirt in the years ahead.
