Cove Rangers legend Mitch Megginson has racked up numerous records during his long and successful career, and when scoring against Montrose at the weekend, he hit another notable milestone.
The composed finish which settled the game, secured the three points, and sent us to the top of the table was his 100th in Scottish League football.
Mitch was just seventeen when he opened his account, out on loan from Aberdeen, he netted for Arbroath in a 2-0 win over Clyde at Broadwood on April 3rd 2010.

The striker had further loan spells, and scored for Brechin City and Alloa Athletic, before he left Pittodrie to sign for Dumbarton. He would net thirteen times during a profitable two-year stay at The Rock and a couple more for Raith Rovers, and back at Alloa, at which point he opted to drop out of the SPFL and begin what would become a memorable next chapter of his career.
The striker signed for Cove in July 2016 and has barely stopped scoring since.
He was regularly the top Highland League marksman as we gathered trophy after trophy and was a major part of the team which gained SPFL football in 2019. The goals continued to flow and it was no surprise that it was Mitch who scored to clinch the League One title, and promotion to the Championship, against Dumbarton in April 2022.
Six months later, the striker celebrated his 200th Cove Rangers goal against Hamilton, and he is now on the 220 mark overall, ninety-two of which have come in our SPFL era. That will be the next target for Mitch, and there seems every likelihood he will reach that particular century in the coming months.
Mike Beattie’s all-time Cove record of 318 goals might be a bit of a stretch, but Mitch Megginson’s place in our history has long since been secured, and whatever his final tally, he will forever be a club legend.
